There's a teacup in my shower

Pretty much for the last 2 months my toddler has been showering with me almost every day. About 2 weeks ago, she brought her pink toy bathtub teacup into the shower.  I don't know why. It's a single teacup. It's not like we are going to have a tea party with a single teacup.  It made her happy, so I just let it go. The other night, she held it under my boob and said "this" which is what she says when she can't say the word for what she wants. So, I squeezed a little breast milk into it, thinking she would drink it.  Nope, she poured it out and held int under my boob again.  I told her no.  I wasn't going to put milkies in the cup if she was just going to dump it out. Of course, she threw a fit.  I stood up and just ignored it.  I'm so over the terrible twos and she doesn't turn 2 for a month yet.  When she calmed herself down, she decided to cover my belly button with the teacup.  Somehow, that made her happy. I don't understand why but she wasn't throwing a fit anymore, so I went with it.  I don't understand why a single pink toy teacup makes her so happy, but sometimes, we do what we have to do.

Raining inside and out

After a week of absolutely beautiful week, it is pouring out today.  It matches my mood rather well.  My dad left this morning after being here all week to meet his new granddaughter and spend time with her older sister and I go back to work tomorrow.  The realization that I go back to work tomorrow is harder than my dad leaving. I have spent the last 8 exhausting, chaotic, wonderfully amazing weeks with these two tiny humans and today is the end of it.

It's funny. I always swore that I never wanted to be a stay at home mommy.  I always figured that I would get bored being home all the time, but after being home these past two months, I feel like I've accomplished less than what I did when I was working full time.  Even on the most infuriating day with my toddler, I still loved every minute of it.  If our financial situation was different, tomorrow would be just another day, but sadly, we have too many bills to pay.

As I sit here eating lunch with my toddler and writing this, I realize how many things I really should get done today, but all I want to do is spend time with my little family.  The dishes and laundry will still be there tomorrow.  The piles of stuff on the counter can wait.  My girls will only be this little for so long.  I'm going to enjoy today.

So as the raindrops fall outside, I wipe my tears away.  I go back to work tomorrow, so I need to enjoy today.

And all the socks matched...

For the first time in probably 2 years I managed to put the baskets back in the laundry room without any socks missing their mate. I have no idea how that happened.  I'm amazed. With 4 different sized socks and 4 loads of laundry somehow none got lost in the playroom or under a bed/crib. None became dog toys or got lost in transit. I am just shocked. Next time I'll have a whole bunch of them that don't match next time but for now, the sock gnomes have no socks...

Stranger Danger

So my toddler loves everyone. I mean everyone. I keep being told that this is a good thing, but it absolutely terrifies me.

When I was pregnant with her sister, she would go into the office saying hi, waving, and giving hugs to everyone.   She even once walked up to an associate at babies r us and hugged her. What made it worse is that the associate dared to pick her up without even asking. Not cool. The doctors office was one thing since it was towards the end of my pregnancy and we had been there many times, but a stranger in a store? Not good.

I'm terrified that she's going to get away from me one day and get snatched up by someone she thinks is safe. It's not that she gets away from me out in public often, but all it takes is one time. She's quick and it's easy to get distracted when you also have a baby to take care of. For the most part she rides in the buggy when we are in a store but sometimes she just pitches a tantrum and as much as you want to walk out of the store until she's over it, it's a lot of work getting 2 kids in and out of the car to run necessary errands.

I hope that I can get her to understand the concept of stranger danger soon.  I understand that it's a good thing for her not to be shy, but she needs to at least be a little shy for her own safety.  Not everyone is a friend.

Not enough time

So the hubby made a comment last night that really kind of irked me. I said I needed to take a shower. His response was "you need to take a shower? You had all day to do that." Yeah, I had lots of time to shower while he was at work in between diaper changes, feedings, toddler meltdowns, laundry, dishes, and making 3 meals, one of which he enjoyed.  I really hope for his sake he was joking.  The sad part about this is that I still have 2 more loads of laundry to do today and the dishwasher is full of clean dishes that need to be put away and the counter is littered with more to do. It never ends. I'm currently stuck on the twin bed in the baby's room with a little people house pressed against me while my toddler presses all the buttons and makes it keep playing music.  So, laundry and dishes will have to wait for a little while.  I did get to shower last night, but my toddler ended up in the shower with me because he can't handle giving her a bath while keeping an ear out for the baby, who slept the entire time we were in the shower. I really want to leave one day and see how he handles the two of them. He may surprise me but I would bet I would get a call or a text within an hour, if not sooner asking when I'm coming home.

Welcome to mommyhood

Have children, they said. There is no greater reward, they said...  They never mentioned how much you have to work for that reward.

I sit here on the bed nursing my 2 week old trying to keep my toddler from smacking her sister in the head with a toy she wants her to play with and getting kicked in the lady parts.  Don't get me wrong, I love my girls, but parenting is a lot more work than I ever expected.  My shirt is covered in a mixture of drool, milk, and sweat but every time I get up to go change it I get distracted or stopped.  There are 3 baskets of clean laundry that need to be folded and put away, a load in the washer, a load in the dryer, and 2 more loads that need to be washed but there just isn't the time.  My Christmas tree is still up because 3 days after Christmas I was admitted into the hospital to have my littlest princess.  Maybe I will get things caught up by summer.  For now, I live a sleep deprived life fueled only by the snuggles and smiles of my girls.  Welcome to mommyhood, it's not easy.

chicken taco quesadillas

So, we have a weekly "Taco Tuesday" in our house.  Pretty much it means that we have some sort of Mexican dish every Tuesday.  Usu...
